![]() Wednesday, January 08, 2003 Social Science?....! I'm going to take another statistics course from the Department of Political Science, after I took 3 from Sociology Department and Psycology Department. Professor Matti, the instructor for this PSC531, expertized in analyzing political election. The textbook he chooses is called Basic Economitrics. Gujarati, the auther of the book happened to major in Mass communication when he was in India, the same field as I used to concentrate. He then switched to MBA as he came to the U.S. and wrote many famous books on economics. Now he is teaching in a department called "social science" at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. As for myself, I changed my research field from Mass Comm. to Internet research, which is dubbed as informatics now. Last year, I joined a Graduate Webshop in Univ. of Maryland. The participants were from all kinds of backgrounds: sociology, psycology, politics, Mathematics, CSE, law, you name it. Once I was so confused that I asked my adviser Alex, what on earth is communication study? He replied in Zen style :" you are not supposed to ask this question... I am doing communicaiton studies". As far as I know, he's been doing research on Internet, law, political science, mass communication and computer science, and some other things that I have no clue. Last semester, some stuff he recommended me to read even came from physics and geology. Actually, I do like this kind of chaos, the collision and the amalgamation of all disciplines. posted by lmeimei @7:37 PM| permanent link| | |
